This week we will continue with our study of color mixing, rainbows and geometric solids. We will begin our study of land and water forms and of course EASTER!!!

So far we have explored primary colors and how they make secondary colors. We mixed up the rainbow in our glass bottles and have used blue and red at the painting easel.

A quick note about the classroom and activities like the easel:

The “prepared environment” is our classroom. Our aim is to provide children with a means to build self-esteem and confidence by developing skills independently. First we show them and then they are free to explore. Materials are ready and prepared for the children to help themselves.

Children wanting to use the easel first must put on a smock, place paper on the easel, print their name on it, go to the sink and get their pallet, placing carefully one scoop of paint from each color, they make their way back to the easel with the pallet and paintbrush. Children are careful to use the paint wisely as they know everyone only gets one scoop of each color. We try our best to use some colors as they are but also to experiment with color mixing. After the painting is complete children must then wash out their brush, clean off the pallet, remove their painting and place it somewhere to dry, Finally they return to the easel, wash any paint that may have gotten on it and return the smock – everything is now ready for the next person.

I hope the next time a painting comes home you will appreciate the hard work that has gone into not just the picture, but the whole process. Rosanne and I are very proud of all the children and excellent progress that has been made over the past few months.
