Winter Celebration

Sooke Montessori Nov.29 2010

Winter celebration….. So Far

Our winter celebration this year will again consist of a show put on by us for you and your whole family. Admission for each person will be a donation of a nonperishable food item or an unwrapped new toy.

We will be doing a small play and a couple of short songs (ON STAGE!!!). Over the next couple of weeks we will be learning our parts and practicing. If for any reason you feel your child will not be able to partake or will be away please let us know as soon as possible.

Our celebration will take place December 16th at 11:00 am in the Saseenos gym.

There will be NO SCHOOL ON THAT DAY

Children will arrive at 10:45 and be dropped off at the classroom to get ready for the performance. Parents and family will make there way to the gym. We will start our play at 11 am and have treats and refreshments afterwards ending by 1:00

*PLEASE provide me with any and all questions and comments. I would love to incorporate your ideas.

VOTE: Do we want someone to make a video of the event? It would cost us a few bucks each to have a dvd of it….. Any volunteers? We would need 15 copies…

-1 adult sized Santa suit and perhaps a Santa inside to visit the party towards the end.

-2 parents to set up chairs (10 am day of)

-costumes/hats: fox, hedgehog, badger, rabbit, mole, mouse, owl, bear, please let me know if you have any of these, I will be assembling the costumes, and have them ready for Monday Dec 6th. *(any forest animals)

The Continents

At Sooke Montessori we have made many maps, books, and cards all depicting the world and it's continents.

This year we are making GLOBES!!! After Modge Podging our primary colors we started using the same technique on balloons to make spheres for globes. The children are also working very hard to pin out each continent. When they have done this, the continents will be glued to the globe. It is my hope that all children will be able to name each continent or at least sing the song before they take their globe home.

color mixing

Tissue paper color mixing, I have set up a table with tissue paper in two primary colors and pre-made papers that have two smaller circles followed by a larger circle. The children have been shown how to do the procedure. They first put their name on the paper and then "modge podge" the tissues in the appropriate spots.

This is how it is suppose to turn out. Showing "Green" in the final circle.

On Monday we learned about the thermometer....

So nice and cozy.....
Brrrrrrrrrrrr..........
Frozen fun..!!!

Snow!

This week has been all about snow!
We have decided to make our theme for the festival of trees Snowflakes. Using Borax and pipe cleaners we made some spectacular snowflakes.

Trust me, in person they are spectacular!

Festival of trees

Festival of trees

November 27, 2010 - January 4, 2011 at SEAPARC in Sooke.

Every year the Festival of Trees transforms lobbies in five BC communities; Vancouver, Victoria, Sooke, Port Alberni and Osoyoos into lush forests of beautifully decorated trees to raise funds for BC Children’s Hospital. As sponsors of this event, local businesses, organizations and individuals have the honour of decorating the trees in a unique, exciting and always-beautiful fashion. The trees are displayed over the holiday season beginning in late November and through to early January.

Sooke Montessori is a proud supporter of the Festival of Trees and will be decorating a tree at Seaparc Saturday Nov. 27th.

If you would like to be apart of this please let me know. Last year we had the most votes for our “Candy” themed tree. I would love to change it up and do something different this year. I was thinking a “recycled” tree “candy cane” tree, “snowflake” tree… ? We don’t have much time and only a small budget, but any and all creative ideas are greatly appreciated, also extra hands on decorating day would be great.

Leaves are swirling

Here is a poem we are learning in class, the children put their name in and try to repeat it. We also act out the poem and try to come up with different descriptive words as a group such as "Leaves are blowing" or "leaves are dancing" and so on......

Leaves are swirling

Softly through the air

_________Likes to catch them

As they tumble everywhere
